Synopsis
Hans Hamid Rasmussen's Kasbah Walking series is a work of reconciliation. Born in Algeria in 1963, Rasmussen grew up in Norway, his mother's homeland, after the Algerian coup forced his family into exile. To integrate into Scandinavian society, Hamid renounced his origins: at the age of fourteen, he took steps to become Hans. Attracted by the arts, he tried his hand at photography before turning to textiles, and more specifically embroidery. It was during his first return to Algeria in 2001, and during numerous strolls through the Kasbah, that he brought these two facets of his art together. Forty years after the brutality of his departure, this journey of discovery also allowed him to piece together his past and fully embrace his multicultural identity. Born Hamid, he became Hans, and is now Hans Hamid. This film tells his story.
