Herman Selleslags

Herman Selleslags was born in Antwerp in 1938. His father, Rik Selleslags, was also a photojournalist. Herman began working as a photographer in the 1950s, first taking commercial pictures and then working as a photographer for Humo magazine, where he photographed many celebrities. These included portraits of The Beatles, Mick Jagger, Ike and Tina Turner and Diana Ross. His archives and those of his father are kept at the Fotomuseum Antwerp.
In 1991, he was awarded the Flemish Community's State Prize for the Visual Arts. In 2007, the Fotomuseum Antwerp devoted a major retrospective to his work. In 2024, Aldine Reinink directed Life Will Give You Pictures, an 80-minute documentary on the life of Selleslags.
Herman Selleslags died in October 2024.
